Link Baiting: Who Wants To Go Fishing?
Link baiting is a tactic thats embraced by bloggers but rarely ever used by other websites. Everyone, not just bloggers can use this method to build lots of quality backlinks for free.
Link baiting has been around for quite some time, but hardly anyone ever uses it. Maybe its because people aren’t 100% aware of the bennefit, or they aren’t sure how of how to do it. Some even consider it to be black hat with a name such as “Link Baiting”, which is why some won’t even consider it.
However link baiting is merely link building with a small twist; rather then browsing the web for hours and constantly sending emails and messages to get a link back from a popular site.
Think of link baiting just like fishing. You publish a new page on a topic and set it free on the web. Hopefully tons of other sites pick up the article and start linking back to your site. The article is the bait, and the link is the catch. Pretty genius right?
A properly created page, can score hundreds and thousands of links back, with little to no effort on your part. With link building there are essentially 5 types of “hooks” built to encourage links. They are Contrary, Attack, Resource, News and Humor.
Contrary hooks are when you directly contradict another report or what someone says. For best results aim these contradictions toward prominent people, and make it controversial as possible.
News hooks are when you report about something in the industry, or something recent. But be careful not to just copy and paste the latest news onto your blog, it won’t stack up to other bigger sites. Instead try to view it from an angle no one else is covering, add view points from different people. You could also find a story or article laying around, and prove it to be false, then tell everyone you can about it.
Resource hooks are more of an informational page. It takes a bunch of information, and breaks it down all in one page for its visitors.
Humor hooks are pretty easy to figure out. Simply post jokes, funny stories, weird or funny pictures work well and anything else that will capture someones attention and maybe a review from others.
The attack hook is basically the contrary hook taken a step further. Make an personal attack on the person you’re trying to contrast to. Just take everything you’ve got and “flame” the other person’s views, life everything you can think of.
So if you’re working on making your site an authority site for any topic, think about loading up on link baiting strategies. It’s a very effective way to build back links quickly and easily. Most the time you’ll get relevant back links that are even better, and then think of all the extra traffic and revenue you’ll create as well.
