Ranking #1 For One Keyword, or Ranking Top 10 For Many Keywords
We ask you our readers what you feel is better for your site. To rank #1 for your main search phrase, or to rank in the top 10 for that search phrase and then many other phrases.
Most beginning webmasters, will tell you they want that #1 spot in Google every time over ranking in the top 10 for many other search phrases. We believe that while getting that #1 spot is a great achievement it shouldn’t be your main goal. And we’ll tell you why.
Most the time when someone searches for something, they may never even get close to your search phrase, if you’re site is only ranking for one phrase rather then say 5 or 6, you’re possibly losing out on 5 or 6 times the traffic you’d normally receive from a search engine!
We also understand though, that sometimes this won’t work for all sites. Some people may just want that number one spot for their key term and thats all they need.
We aim to rank high as possible for many search phrases here, and we always try to explain to our clients that while we’re aiming for their number one spot for them, sometimes 2 thru 10 can be better. We’d love to hear your thoughts on if you’d rather rank #1 in Google for your search phrase, or if you’d rather get more top ten rankings!
